Student Volunteer Service Awards

In addition to the personal satisfaction and growth that comes with serving your community, Johnson students have two ways to be recognized for their volunteer service. They are able to apply for the NEISD Student Volunteer Service Award (SVSA) and the President's Volunteer Service Award (PVSA). The NEISD SVSA and PVSA are two different programs. At Johnson, entering hours through the NEISD SVSA makes a student eligible for both NEISD SVSA and PVSA awards.

To achieve the NEISD SVSA and PVSA in 2019-20, student enter hours through the NEISD Student Volunteer Portal. Students no longer enter hours through the PVSA website.

In 2019-2020, the NEISD SVSA award will include volunteer service performed from April 1, 2019-March 31, 2020, and the PVSA award will include volunteer service performed from April 23, 2019-March 31, 2020. for hours entered by April 2. 2020. In 2020-21, the NEISD SVSA and PVSA awards will be synchronized to include service performed from April 1, 2020-March 31, 2021.

The 2020 PVSA/SVSA Ceremony will be held on May 20 from 6:30-7:30 pm in the Johnson Auditorium followed by a reception from 7:30-8 pm in the Auditorium foyer. Melanie Aranda Tawil, CEO & Co-owner of SwipeTrack Solutions, LLC. and City of San Antonio Small Business Advocacy Committee Member, is the featured speaker. Recipients will receive their invitations through their English classes.

Johnson High School is a proud participant of President’s Volunteer Service Awards (PVSA). Sponsored by the Johnson PTSA, this award is open to all Johnson High students who have volunteered service hours on campus or in their community.

The Johnson PVSA Committee recognizes recipients by age in the following categories:

PVSA awards are based on volunteer age at the end of the award window.

The PVSA national organization gives each certifying organization (i.e. school) the right to establish what it defines as volunteer service as well as the hours that qualify as service.  The PVSA committee at Johnson has determined that
  • volunteerism is defined as an act that benefits and builds community and serves those in need,
  • recorded volunteer service hours must have taken place outside of school hours,
  • a student cannot accept monetary or other in-kind contributions for recorded volunteer service hours, and
  • students can record up to 12 hours per day, or up to 99 hours per 7-day week

Along with the ultimate honor of presidential recognition, recipients will receive a personalized certificate, an official pin, and a congratulatory letter from the President of the United States. If you want to ensure that your application stands out at the college of your choice, begin logging your hours now.
