Student Volunteer Service Awards
In addition to the personal satisfaction and growth that comes with serving your community, Johnson students have two ways to be recognized for their volunteer service. They are able to apply for the NEISD Student Volunteer Service Award (SVSA) and the President's Volunteer Service Award (PVSA). The NEISD SVSA and PVSA are two different programs. At Johnson, entering hours through the NEISD SVSA makes a student eligible for both NEISD SVSA and PVSA awards.
To achieve the NEISD SVSA and PVSA in 2024-25, student enter hours through the NEISD Skyward Portal. All students are able to log into Skyward Family Access then login to the student portal. Parents are able to log in to the system to help their student record hours through the parent portal if needed.
In 2024-25, the NEISD SVSA and PVSA awards will include volunteer service performed from April 1, 2024-March 31, 2025. Hours must be entered by end of the day on March 31, 2025.
The 2025 PVSA/SVSA Ceremony will be held on May xx, 2025 in the Johnson Auditorium from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM. Family and friends are welcome to attend the ceremony.

Service Award Guidelines
- In order for student volunteer hours to count, the service hours must be performed outside of the regular school hours.
- Drives – such as clothes, coat, food, books etc.. Students can count travel time, and time it took to pick out the item. Also students can count the time it took to organize and deliver goods to the organization if they are helping with that portion.
- Fostering Animals – Students who volunteer with a Foster Animal can count 2 hours a day Monday through Friday during the school year and can record up to 5 hours a day during weekends and summers for fostering.
- Those who volunteer for camps in the summer can count the official hours they work at the camp.
- The age your child is on March 31 of each year determines the hours needed for each level of the Student Volunteer Service Award.
NEISD Student Volunteer Service Award (NEISD SVSA)
NEISD students and parents can record volunteer hours through the district website student and parent portal. Students who enter their hours on the portal are eligible for NEISD Student Volunteer Service Awards (SVSA). The awards are provided by NEISD Council of PTAs and delivered to the PTSA President for distribution.

President's Volunteer Service Award (PVSA)
Johnson High School is a proud participant of President’s Volunteer Service Awards (PVSA). Sponsored by the Johnson PTSA, this award is open to all Johnson High students who have volunteered service hours on campus or in their community.
The age category is determined by the age the person was for at least 7 months within the calendar year. For example, if the person was 16 for 7 months within the year in question, that person would qualify within the 16-25 age group.
To qualify for this prestigious award, students must perform a minimum number of volunteer service hours between April 1, 2023 and March 31, 2024. The next two charts reflect both the PVSA and the SVSA (district) hours criteria.
The age category is determined by the age the person was for at least 7 months within the calendar year. For example, if the person was 16 for 7 months within the year in question, that person would qualify within the 16-25 age group.

The PVSA national organization gives each certifying organization (i.e. school) the right to establish what it defines as volunteer service as well as the hours that qualify as service. The PVSA committee at Johnson has determined that
- volunteerism is defined as an act that benefits and builds community and serves those in need,
- recorded volunteer service hours must have taken place outside of school hours,
- a student cannot accept monetary or other in-kind contributions for recorded volunteer service hours, and
- students can record up to 12 hours per day, or up to 99 hours per 7-day week
