PTSA Senior Scholarships
The Johnson PTSA senior scholarship is advertised through our PTSA newsletter, PTSA Facebook page, Counselor eblasts, school principal eblasts and announced at PTSA association meetings.
The 2023-24 scholarship application is due on Thursday, March 7, 2024 by 4PM.
Each applicant must be a member of the PTSA to apply. The applicant can join on the Store page. Membership must be verified by the application due date to receive an interview. The applicant must be a members of the current Senior class, have a scholastic record satisfactory to the committee, and plan to continue his/her education. The applicant must demonstrate character traits, and will be scored accordingly, that may include, but are not limited to, good citizenship, integrity, dependability, service to others, and leadership.
The value of each scholarship is $1000. The number of scholarship(s) is determined as the budget allows. The scholarship(s) are a one time payment given directly to the student prior to the student attending their chosen institute of higher learning. Due to the fact that it is a one-time payment, future transcripts are not obtained. Awarded students receive written notice of their award at the conclusion of the interview process. Non-awarded students will be notified by mail.
The applicant packet must include the following, or it will not be considered: a completed application form, a current personal photograph, GPA and rank (verified by counseling office, allow 3 days for verification), a written or typed essay stating (in 500 words or less) why you are applying for the scholarship, future plans and goals, and what have your experiences and personal involvement in JHS and the extended community taught you and how will you apply that in the future.
The selection committee will interview a limited number of applicants that turn in a completed application packet no later than the deadline of 4:00 pm on the Thursday prior to Spring Break. Selected applicants will be contacted by the counseling office as to their appointed interview date and time. In the event that more than one applicant scores evenly, the line breaker shall be dependent on the volunteer service portion of the application.
The selection committee shall consist of the JHS PTSA President, JHS PTSA 3rd VP Membership, JHS PTSA Scholarship Chair, a JHS Counseling Representative, and a JHS Administration Representative. In the event that one of the above members has a student applying, an alternate must be appointed in the stead consisting of the PTSA Secretary, Parliamentarian or Blossom Scholarship Chair.
