For years, the Johnson campus and PTSA have worked together to help remind and encourage drivers of all ages and all parts of our city and county to make smart choices behind the wheel. We collaborate to host a very powerful and educational program on our campus called "Shattered Dreams". The two-day program is designed to educate students, parents, and the community about the serious issue of underage drinking and driving, by providing a realistic experience and encouraging them to make positive choices.

“Shattered Dreams,” is a renowned driver safety program that promotes responsible decision-making among high school students regarding underage drinking and impaired and distracted driving. The event dramatically shows junior and senior students how poor choices behind the wheel can end all dreams as they witness a mock drunk driving crash complete with emergency personnel responding as they would to a crash fatality.

The event includes Johnson High School students & staff, SAPD, SAFD, SAFFE, EMS, NEISD PD, SAMMC, EMS, Bexar-Bulverde Volunteer FD, AirMethods, Hospital representatives, a local funeral home and the Johnson High School PTSA, who sponsor the event.

The event dramatically depicts a vehicular collision where drinking and driving played a predominant role, leaving one student dead, several injured, and one arrested. The student body watched as police, fire, and other emergency personnel responded to the scene. The victim students are transported by ambulance and helicopter to local hospitals, while the "deceased" students will be transported by hearse to a local funeral home. The drunk driver will be arrested and transported to the San Antonio jail for book-in and arraignment.

Throughout the day, the Grim Reaper enters the classroom approximately every 20 minutes and selects a student victim, known as the "Living Dead". The 20-minute period represented how often someone is killed in an alcohol related accident. As students were pulled from class, a police officer reads the student's obituary that was written by the student and his or her parents. At the end of the school day, the Living Dead, crash victims, and drunk driver were taken on an evening retreat to enhance the learning experience.
